The objective is clearly stated: guide the chosen character safely to the castle on each level, bringing the rescue of the princess from Bowser’s claws one step closer. That setup gives each attempt a readable destination without needing extra explanation. The play is best approached as a test of timing rather than constant speed. Cleaner runs come from reading corners early, accepting small slowdowns, and avoiding unnecessary contact on the way to the castle.
